Enjoy a Mid-Century Modern Christmas

If you want to have a retro Christmas this year, why not go all out with silver trees and lots of color? Oh, the memories…

My brother-in-law Bill remembers having a silver tree in his third grade classroom with Mrs. Barrios at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Belle Chasse, Louisiana. “It was the most amazing thing I’d ever seen because no one I knew had a silver tree. That was just crazy!” he recalls.

I remember my grandma Floy had a silver tree, too, and it stood gloriously in her living room. She added Christmas color and cheer with a revolving color wheel!

I’m sure she sold her silver tree with the color wheel in a garage sale, and someone who adores mid-century modern decorating was thrilled with their purchase! For those of you wishing to recreate memories like ours, here are a few ideas for your own mid-century modern Christmas decor:

I love this colorful space where retro style is evident, and the tree matches the rest of the room’s bright palette.

This space features the quintessential mid-century modern silver tree.

With stockings on the fireplace and a glowing Rudolph, this retro space goes all out with holiday accessories.

Happily, this picture captures the ’60s silver tree and color wheel! (I even found a color wheel available for purchase if you want to add one to your holiday decorations this year.)

Here’s to a merry mid-century modern Christmas!
