Take Color Block Cues from Henri Matisse

I spent some down time doing one of the things I love to do most – attending a collection of wonderful artwork.  One of the best places to do this is at The High Museum of Art here in Atlanta.  At The High I enjoyed the wondrous works of Henri Matisse – my favorite artist in the High’s Picasso to Warhol exhibit.

Matisse’s use of color is phenomenal.  In fact, he was one of the first artists to experiment with painting with large blocks of color.  When you observe his paintings, notice how he is able to make two-dimensional objects appear  three dimensional with the use of Color Blocking.

Matisse believed that the experience of color is dependent upon how much you see.  Large amounts of saturated color enhances that experience.  This is true when creating interiors as well.  The use of brilliant colors helps transform any room into something extraordinary.  It’s a trend we are seeing in this season’s fall fashions and with interior design.
