The Rich Colors of Matisse
An exhibition regarding Matisse, now at the Met, explores the artist’s love of color and his process. The artist would often make several versions of the same painting and would have a photographer record his progress, Vogue reported.
For example, the painting above, named “The Dream”, was created after a long process. The evolution of the piece is recorded below.
Looking at the images above, I’m reminded what a difference color makes! And Matisse certainly knew color. He used tones and shadows to convey a mood that was either joyful, serious, or something in between. The image below demonstrates this talent of Matisse’s.
