The True Meaning of Thanksgiving

As many of us sat around the dinner table just a week ago to celebrate Thanksgiving, we counted the many blessings that we have in our lives. Our family, our friends, the roof over our heads, the food on our plates, our health; the list seemed endless. Then we think about those who are less fortunate than we are. The people affected by Hurricane Sandy, who might not have a roof over their head; those families who had to visit a shelter to enjoy a Thanksgiving Day meal; and the military families who aren’t together this year because of deployment.

This Thanksgiving, one family was a little more grateful for the time their shared together, and I had the privilege to help make this possible through my work at the American Red Cross. New Orleans Saints Owner and Vice-Chairman, Rita Benson LeBlanc teamed up with us at the Red Cross to reunite Louisiana National Guardsman SPC Brandon Davis with his family minutes before the Saints vs Falcons game at the Superdome for a special Veteran’s Day surprise. “This is exciting this is like a dream. Especially to come back and see my family an for the Saints game against the Atlanta Falcons. It’s a dream,” says SPC Davis.

It’s moments like these that I am so extremely proud to be part of such an amazing organization as the American Red Cross and at this Sunday Saints game against the 49ers, our volunteers will be collecting cards for Holiday Mail for Heroes.  This event is made possible through our partnership with the Saints. Stop by so you can help make a difference in the lives of the Armed Forces by sending a holiday note of appreciation to a service member.
