Window Treatments – The Finishing Touch

If you want to add a finish finishing touch to any room, make sure you include money in your decorating budget for window treatments.  It’s the perfect way to add color and interest to any space.  Recently I added window treatments to Paula and Dan Milham’s living room and dining room. The transformation was incredible, nothing dresses up a room quite like window treatments.

I also have to thank my client Dan Milham who captured the redo. I love how Dan turned his love of photography into his new profession after retiring from WDSU-TV.  He shoots a wide variety of work from promotional photography to cherished family photos.  We’ve worked together before so you’ll see his work used in my portfolio.

Check out the new look to their living room!  By the way, we added the new sofa with colorful pillow about a year ago.

The True Meaning of Thanksgiving

Photo via Fox 8

As many of us sat around the dinner table just a week ago to celebrate Thanksgiving, we counted the many blessings that we have in our lives. Our family, our friends, the roof over our heads, the food on our plates, our health; the list seemed endless. Then we think about those who are less fortunate than we are. The people affected by Hurricane Sandy, who might not have a roof over their head; those families who had to visit a shelter to enjoy a Thanksgiving Day meal; and the military families who aren’t together this year because of deployment.

This Thanksgiving, one family was a little more grateful for the time their shared together, and I had the privilege to help make this possible through my work at the American Red Cross. New Orleans Saints Owner and Vice-Chairman, Rita Benson LeBlanc teamed up with us at the Red Cross to reunite Louisiana National Guardsman SPC Brandon Davis with his family minutes before the Saints vs Falcons game at the Superdome for a special Veteran’s Day surprise. “This is exciting this is like a dream. Especially to come back and see my family an for the Saints game against the Atlanta Falcons. It’s a dream,” says SPC Davis.

It’s moments like these that I am so extremely proud to be part of such an amazing organization as the American Red Cross and at this Sunday Saints game against the 49ers, our volunteers will be collecting cards for Holiday Mail for Heroes.  This event is made possible through our partnership with the Saints. Stop by so you can help make a difference in the lives of the Armed Forces by sending a holiday note of appreciation to a service member.

Tabletop Décor: Setting the Perfect Thanksgiving Day Table

The countdown to Thanksgiving Day is on. In less than 24 hours you’ll be hosting friends and family as you sit around the table to enjoy a special holiday meal. The menu has been planned, now you just need to focus on the decor.

Here are some of my favorite place settings for Thanksgiving that I found on Pinterest. As you can see pumpkins are still in season, so if you still have a few left over from Halloween, use they as part of the decor.  Keep it simple so you don’t have to spend too much time decorating the table.  The process should be fun and creative!

Now that the table is set it is time to freshen up on holiday etiquette. Patricia Napier-Fitzpatrick, the Founder and Director of The Etiquette School of New York, has shared tips on setting the “perfect table and being the perfect guest at one” on The Vivant.

All That Glitters Gold

Ring in the holiday season this year with one of my favorite colors– gold. After all, what hue defines glamour more than the color gold?

This lamp was definitely given the “Midas Touch.”

Golden accents are a great way to bring a touch of sophistication into your space. This gilded mirror really dresses up this corner.

A Look Inside the World of Bond, James, Bond

Today the latest Bond film, Skyfall, opens in theaters across the country. For 50 years, 007 agent James Bond has shown his allegiance to the Queen of England all while looking dashing and breaking hearts. While the gadgets and the actors playing the role of the James Bond captivated me throughout the years, it was the settings that really stopped by heart.

I want to look back on the 50 years of Bond and showcase my favorite scene-stealer, the decor.

I love this wallpaper almost as much as I love Sean Connery, the original Bond, from movie From Russia With Love (1963).

The famous “Elrod House” in Palm Springs, designed by John Lautner, played a key role in the 1971 film, Diamonds Are Forever.

This 1974 Bond film, The Man With The Golden GunThis is a featured page, starred Roger Moore, who played the agent in seven films, more than any other actor.

Another favorite is from the more recent film starring the latest Bond, Daniel Craig, Quantum of Solace (2008).

Colorful Gifts Ideas For The Holiday Season

I can’t believe it is already November. The holiday season is finally upon us and there is much to do before the end of the year. I’ve already started working on my shopping list, which is quickly expanding. I find the more catalogs I get in my mail, the longer my list becomes.

Here are a few of my favorite things from one of my favorite stores Neiman Marcus.

Start the season off right with a toast in these Waterford Crystal “Snowflake Wishes” stemware.

“By George I think he’s got it.” Robert Kardashian, brother of Kim, Kourtney and Khloe, is trying his luck in the apparel business with his Arthur George collection of luxury socks due to hit Neiman Marcus stores this month. Retailing for $30 per pair, these socks will make the perfect stocking stuffer.

Need a gift for the man in your life? Why not choose from one of the many sterling silver cuff links by David Donahue.

Looking for a pop of color to spice up your holiday attire? Lagos Caviar™ Macramé Bracelets are the perfect accessory for the fashionista in you.

Keeping with the theme of color, what are some of your favorite gift items?
